About the "PRO PIANO-ROMANIA" International Contest

The „PRO PIANO-ROMANIA" International Contest is the very important project organized by the Cultural Foundation „PRO PIANO-ROMANIA" in 1997. It is open to young pianists aged between 6 and 30 and it is the first international contest of this kind held in Bucharest. The contest is divided into 4 sections: A, B, C and D (the last section consists on four hands performances).

The originality of this contest lies in the division of the first two sections A and B into 4, respectively 8 categoryes, considering the age of the participants, as each birth year represents a different category. Thus the participants have the opportunity of getting a fair evaluation.
The first 13 editions of the Contest gathered together about 1819 participants from 30 countries: Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bulgaria, Canada, China, Croatia, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Latvia, Letonia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldavia, Serbia-Muntenegru, Poland, Portugalia, Russia, Slovacia, Slovenia, Suedia, USA, Turkey, Ukraina, Uzbekistan and Romania. The record of participation was established at the second edition when 190 artists attended the event.

The organizers were impressed not only by the number of competitors but by their artistic skills as well as most of the participants had a very rich and interesting C.V., regarding their repertoire and the international awards they were given.
The prizes are those mentioned at the caption of the regulation. The members of the Jury have always been personalities of both the Romanian and international music field (pianists, musicologists, composers) from Bulgaria, Canada, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Monaco, USA, Romania.

Excerpts from the newspapers:

"…it is the competition of great expectations and great endeavours."
"… it is a way of going through continental limits up to the great circuit of universal values. It is a way of emphasizing the national worthiness."
